In my diocese, the Bishop has elected that permanent deacons not wear clerics with the exception of those in active prison ministry. However, I have been reading online (and on Facebook) where there are some diocese’s that the permanent deacons are asked to wear clerics but not the “black” shirt, rather they have opted for gray or some other color to lessen the confusion for the laity. Just curious to see if other deacons are wearing clerics (different color than of priest or seminarians) or the traditional black, or not at all.

Since I was ordained I am "seeing" more and more that Deacons are allowed to wear clerics. It has always been interesting to see the argument that people will confuse us with priests, though transitional deacons, seminarians and religious brothers wear black. Who's confusing who? They just changed across the river in Philly allowing Deacons to wear the collar, but with different color shirt.
The most interesting read I've seen is wear a bishop allowed the collar, but not in the assigned parish of the Deacon!

Shortly after ordination our bishop decided that permanent deacons were not to wear clerics at all. Anybody need a couple of never worn shirts? Just kidding.

I have four different colour shirts I wear, with the white collar insert. When I am ministering, five different areas of my area, I wear the clerical dress. The only difference is that all my shirts have the Deacon Logo embroidered over the left pocket. The only distinguishing mark from a Priest. When I am not ministering in my role as a Deacon - I do not wear the clerics.
