You see the question. "Often" and "rarely" are relative terms. All poll choices are anonymous. Reply with a message of you like, but replies are not anonymous. Poll will stay open for 30 days.

I have found that by memorizing portions of morning and evening prayer, e.g., Invitatory, Canticle of Zechariah, a few short psalms, Magnificat, etc. I am able to participate in the LOH when I am away and have no resources. I also use on-line versions on occassion. Deacon Mark

Always do Morning and Evening Prayer and try to include Office of Readings several days of the week. I find the Office of Readings very beneficial to the start of my day.

O of R, MP, EP, NP daily - no misses. Sadly, individuals in reasonably good health who miss frequently have ceased to be functioam deacons. Jack Baker, St. Louis '96 (Now incard. St. Augustine)

I have found a couple of good apps to use for the LOH. The one I use most is IBreviary. I have it on my Iphone and Kindle. It follows the 4 volume set exactly and is free. It also has all the extras the books have such as the commons and Mary on Sat. etc. along with many other goodies. The Daily Mass readings, extra prayers, the rites such as blessings and visits to the sick, rites for the sacraments and so on. There is another one that is a paid for app that has the LOH only but it is all in audio. I have no reason to skip my obligation with all these resources.

Good point about the electronic versions. I use them almost exclusively - much easier than flipping around the book, IMO. Makes it easier to concentrate on the prayers. I've used ebreviary.org for a long, long time, but now I also have the Divine Office app on my phone and computer. Both are faithful to the books.
Might make a good poll question sometime!

My wife and I do morning prayer, using the appropriate edition of the four-volume version, nearly every day together. That is GREAT! I'll do evening prayer solo often, but not nearly every evening. Occasionally at school, where I teach and do campus ministry, I'll sneak into the chapel and read mid-day prayers. If I get up in the middle of the night (about 1 or 2 a.m., often) I'll read Office of Readings for usually the previous day. Our deacon formation class uses the four-volume edition or one of the e-versions (Terra Sancta; I-Breviary). The diocese gave each candidate a copy of the Shorter Christian Prayer, but nobody seems to use it.

It was a promise made at ordination. With the smart phone apps available now, there is virtually no excuse not to have it with you.

I do the entire liturgy everyday. I don't carry the Brievary at all anymore. At home I use my laptop and the rest of the day, I use my smart phone. When discussing prayer time with other Brother Deacons, they often reply "How do you have time:. I tell them, I get up at five o'clock instead of five thirty.
The only time that I need the Brievary is when I go on Retreat, because the retreat house is out in the boonies.
