This is just a quick note to let you know that it is working. I am currently in formation. Is there any possibility of setting up a board where we can participate / assist one another?

This is just a quick note to let you know that it is working. I am currently in formation. Is there any possibility of setting up a board where we can participate / assist one another? Thanks, Dan. I was wondering if anyone was ever going to use this section! To answer your question, we have had several men in formation ask about joining the board. And I think we're going to have to address that question as a group down the road. But I'd like to give it a try "as is" to see if our original idea will fly. While in formation we got together every week for class and formation and many Saturdays for workshops and such and we'd go out after class for a sandwich and drinks and all that stuff. But once ordained, job and family and ministry really start to intrude on our good time. Some guys out in the sticks feel lke they are totally out of the loop. The hope was that this board could keep us close until those times when we can get together in person. My suggestion would be for you guys in formation to use this section (Almost there!) to communicate with each other and to ask questions. The members of the board will all be able to read your questions and comments and discuss them with you. You could also set up your own Pro-Board, but would you have time? Would enough people sign on to participate? We have almost 100 members but less than a fourth of them have posted anything so far. Most just pop in, see what is going on and leave. I imagine that as the younger guys who use computers on a regular basis get ordained, this will change. We'll see. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. tell your class mates that they are more than welcome to drop in here. Let's see what happens. Tim

I am a Deacon Candidate in South Louisiana. In June we will become "Lectors" and in August "Acolytes". I am one of 15 in my class. We have class every other Saturday and evey other Thursday evening this semester. After this semester, which ends in May, we will have 2 semesters remaining. God willing, we will complete our studies in May 2006. I enjoyed looking at this website. I am involved in prison ministry and can see where talking with others in this ministry could be a great help. Your friend in Jesus, Robert

Our prayers are with you in your formation and I hope the year flies by for you. What class are you taking this semester and what classes do you have left? Tim PS Do you ever run into Fr, M. Jeffrey Bayhi down there in Loooziana?

Thank you for the prayers. This semseter, we are taking Moral Theology, The Sacraments, and Pastoral Ministry. I do not have my schedule with me showing the remaining classes. I believe ther are five classes left. I do believe that my last year will go by fast. It seems like yesterday that I got started and then again it seems like centuries ago. It is getting close now and I am really getting excited. Yes, I do see Fr. Jeff Bayhi. Is he a friend of yours?

Your friend in Jesus, Robert Robert, I am a deacon involved in prison ministry, primarily to the men at SCI-GREENE maximum security prison in SW Pennsylvania. I've been involved with this ministry for about 10 years, first unofficially as a volunteer during formation then after being ordained as the focus of my "ministry for charity and justice" as assigned by the bishop. It is truly an amazing ministry, surprising only in its fulfillment in helping me to better recognize Christ in the outcasts in the world which surpasses any other experience I've had. I would be happy to discuss this ministry with you and others on this board and/or privately as the situation warrants. My prayers are with you as you continue in your formation and progress in your ministry in the prison setting. In Christ's peace, Jim Sheil

Greetings brothers in our Risen Lord Jesus Christ. Peace be with you!
I send fondest wishes to you from Corpus Christi, Texas where I am just beginning what I hope to be the start of a glorious and joyful journey toward ordination. The latest inquiry class in the Diocese just formed and meets for the third time on Sunday.
I'm looking forward to having the opportunity to use this website as a source of inspiration and resource as I continue discernment and do what I can to prepare myself for what lies ahead.
With God's grace and the prompting of the Holy Spirit, I'll pass my interviews and psychological testing in the spring and be accepted into the program when classes begin next fall.
May God bless each of you, and I look forward to learning much from you.

welcome...i was ordained in 1984 and over the course of my journey i have seen many changes with formation in our own diocese, a growth in the diaconate, an overwhelming acceptance of the diaconate, a deep respect for the diaconate, and an endless opportunity and diversity for ministry...God bless you

Welcome, Robert!
What Dave said in spades. The (modern) diaconate has not been around long enough (in Church terms) to be pigeon-holed. You are in for a wild ride, so hold on tight. When you are officially accepted into your formation program, you can officially register to access the rest of the board. In the meantime, ask anything you like right here.
