One of the great things about this board is that we can post pictures right in our messages. Pictures of our ministries, our families, hobbies, dogs or anything else that we think might interest our brother deacons.
Before you do that though, you'll need a website to host your pictures for you so that this bulletin board can link to them. There are quite a few sites out there that will host pictures for free (just do a GOOGLE search on free picture hosting or similar) but the one that I use is Photobucket.
Another site I've used in the past is: www.tinypic.com but I prefer www.photobucket.com
You can upload your pic from your own PC or from an http address. After it is uploaded to the host site you'll have 3 options to copy an address. Copy the IMG line and you can just paste it into your message without doing anything else.
Or if you have the URL of an image, once you have uploaded pictures to your picture hosting site, all you do is, while you are writing your message, click on the 4th button over, on the second row (above the smiley faces - the one that looks like a picture frame). You'll get something that looks like this:
"img"URL"/img"
with brackets instead of quotes. (If I had put the brackets in this message, nothing would appear to you.)
Simply delete the word URL in the middle, and paste in the address of the picture in its place (remember, no spaces!). That's it!
(Without getting too complicated, copying and pasting the last line in Show URLs should allow you to post an image without clicking the picture button, since it is the same command.)
You can also post pictures of interest from other people's pages and web sites. Simply RIGHT click on the picture you want. Click on PROPERTIES at the bottom of the drop down box that opens up. Another box will open up with the URL (address) of the picture in the middle. Highlight the WHOLE address (sometimes they are 2 or 3 lines long) and paste in where the in place of the deleted word URL between the brackets.
Example:
One or two caveats:
1) The way the pictures sometimes come out of the cameras are sometimes very large and they might need to be resized in whatever photo software you use before you save it to Photobucket or whatever web site you are using. Actually, Photobucket will offer to resize your pics for you.
Something around 400 or 500 pixels by 400 or 500 pixels is a good size for a bulletin board.
2) Many, many pictures in one message takes a long time to load for people using a dial-up connection (especially large pics). I don't worry about it too much, but I try not to post more than two or three pictures in one message. Putting the address in instead as a link is a good way to post many pictures at one time.
Example:
www.wreckedexotics.com/newphotos/weird/weird511.jpg
3) I'm sure that I don't have to tell a bunch of good, Catholic deacons to please be careful what kind of pictures you post. Remember that some people are accessing this board from work and you never know who is looking over your shoulder or checking out your computer.
So, come on! Let's see some of those pictures you've been taking with those new-fangled digital cameras! I'm sure you'll get some honest feedback whether you want it or not.
